Nobu

Would anyone else like to go to Nobu when I get back? And does anyone else see a grinning triceratops in the Nobu logo?

I remember being bemused by this at the Tokyo restaurant many years ago, so it's not perceptual dysfunction brought on by isolation. At least, not just that.

I get the triceratops part. Cool.
Looking forward to helping you on your new house and welcoming you home soon. Hope you find a sitter for Leia!

If I'm going to blow a wad (of cash) on fancy Japanese food, I vote for Sasabune.

Timmy, please dissect the two recommendations and weigh in.

Momomo. Momomo. Momomo.

I just took a bunch of vicodin, so my thoughts on this topic of grave import should be even loopier than usual.

I am a huge fan of Sasabune and have never eaten at Nobu. Both are very tempting. At Sasabune, the dishes are flawless and you have a very small restaurant, so you practically have your own personal waiter. They only serve sushi, and they want you to get the special known as "Trust Me", meaning you delegate all of your choices to the chef. It's sort of like being at the Soup Nazi's. Only they don't have soup. And they don't yell at you. And it's not in New York.

I've heard good things about Nobu. They apparently have an excellent hamachi dish, and you could sell me on that alone. And we could always hit the Yard House in Waikiki afterward and get sloshed on all the different beers.

In conclusion, my inclination is to try something new, so my choice would be Nobu, if it were up to me. On the other hand, if we were talking about my last meal on earth, I would probably stick with Sasabune. So the true conclusion is that if you want to hit Sasabune, you need to kill me after dinner. You could always whisper to the chef: "He's the one who wants the fugu. And he wants it to be prepared by the pastry chef. No, he's not kidding."

Wow, that vicodin is really startin' to kick in. Instead of a triceratops, I think I see a drummer in red. Do they have a live band at Nobu? I may have to change my decision.......

Momomo will definitely be an early stop - its izakaya food is superb - but Sasabune and Nobu are both (supposed to be) in a different league. Hm. I've never been to Sasabune, so that's a point in its favor, and Nobu took the place of my favorite Waikiki restaurant, which is a point against it.

OK, I'm sold. Sasabune it is. We can flip a coin to decide who gets to kill Timmy afterwards.

Given the large amount of interest, you may need to draw straws.

Who said that?! Identify yourself!

It wasn't me. It was you. And quit bogarting this thread.

Whoa, Timmy. Lay off the drugs, dude.

I too vote for Sasabune, I think I had the best meal of my life there.

BTW while I was waiting in line yesterday to purchase the 20lbs of shrimp for our martian party what should I look down an behold but the
Weekly World News. So you now definitely have at least one copy. And just to peak your interest it includes "Kid's letters to Batboy- you won't believe what they ask"

See you Saturday night.

OK, if you insist. As soon as the ear infection is gone, I will conquer this terrible vicodin affliction. But only with God's help.

God cannot help you, Timmy. He is busy assisting me with a new filing system at the office.

Whoot! on the Sasabune vote. I still think about the spanish mackeral. I don't think I've ever had anything better than that, including foie gras, lobster, and crispy crispy bacon.

But is mackeral really better than the lemonglass crams? I think we need another vote here.

Jen said...

I think my father would vote for a berken double cheesebaker.

As tempting as those lemonglass crams sound, I'm sticking with the mackarel.

How's the vicodin treating you? I might take some tonight just because nothing on TV is that good.

I think god is helping me, because I'm going to hit Nobu this weekend. I'll report back.

Ok, that's weird. My comment back to Tim about God is missing from this particular thread.
Wonder what God didn't like about what I said?
My co-worker isn't as annoying today...

What is it if it's NOT supposed to be a grinning triceratops? 'Cause it's nothing BUT a triceratops to me.

If you look at the the other half of the image, it's a dude with a knife menacing what is probably meant to be a fish. Either that, or a drummer. Given Nobu is a sushi place, I suspect it's a drummer.
