For Cinco de Mayo, The Devon Island Margarita:

Gatorade
Lime Juice
Sugar
Salt
Fresh snow
No tequila whatsoever, oh no, because we definitely weren't allowed to bring that

The past few days have been sunny and cold, but today was windy and bloody cold: -20 degrees celsius and 20 knot winds, adding up to -35C with wind chill. I decided it was a nice day to think about science indoors. Paul went outside in his utilikilt, because he is certifiable (Matt is sensibly dressed in a fur-lined parka):

When do you get the still up and running?

We'll start distilling water when Kathy the biologist gets here, since she'll need distilled water for some of her work. What other possible use for a still could there be?

Nevermind. What about a beer kit?

Look, Sarah, I told you perfectly clearly booze was not part of the mission plan. It is for that reason that we don't have as much duty free as we could carry, nor do we have a beer kit and a wine kit - and even if we did, we would have no intention of setting them up in a couple of days, when the last of our put-in flights arrives.

Look, three years is a long time. I think it *should* be part of the mission plan. What kind of puritains are running Mars anyway?

Bummer about the margarita. I guess the folks who didn't smuggle in all the duty free they could carry would have chosen the more versatile vodka. Had they smuggled duty free in. Which they didn't.

Oh, if we had smuggled booze in, which of course we didn't, we would have got a little bit of everything, including tequila. Probably Sauza Gold.

Which I understand is only $11.95 per liter. You of course wouldn't know that.

Booze is much more expensive in Canada. Or so I've heard.
